Broward parks

Broward county offers a lot to the people who live there and visit. Year round, the county has different programs and leagues running various programs to appeal to everyone living in this county.

The Parks

The easiest way to find county parks is to use the park finder on the website. Clicking that link shows you a map of the county with all of the parks marked for you on the map. You can zoom in and out to find the area you live, and locate parks nearby. Clicking on a park will give you the address, park hours, a list of the facilities available and a gallery of photos from the parks.

Not all parks are owned and operated by the county, so Broward County's website also points you toward parks that are run by the municipalities, as well as the two state parks: Hugh Taylor Birch Park and John U. Lloyd Park. Links are provided to each of the municipalities and state parks.

Park Use

Each county park provides a variety of facilities for residents of the counties. These facilities range across all interests, including athletic fields, boat rentals, horse riding, mountain bike trails and a skate park. Special interests such as a velodrome, model plane field and a shooting target range are all included in the facilities.

Many of the facilities at the parks are available for rental for a variety of functions, including weddings, meetings and other special events. Reservations can be made by contacting the county Parks and Recreation Department.

In order to make regular use of these parks, a small admission fee is required for each visit. If you are a regular park-goer, or avid outdoor person, annual passes can be purchased from the county. Individual and family passes are available, and options for these passes can be added to give you admission to the various water parks throughout the county as well.

Once you are inside the parks, the facilities are free to use on a first-come, first-served basis.

For Nature Lovers

If you're the type of person who loves nature, you can find various nature centers and hiking trails in Broward County parks.

One example is the Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center. The natural area includes a nature hiking trail approximately half a mile long. Hikes led by naturalists are available if you want to join a group and learn more about the area and its wildlife. Equestrian trails can be ridden, and the nature center itself contains a number of educational displays educational material on the Everglades, the Seminole and Tequesta First Nations people as well as other natural history exhibits.

Long Key Natural Area is just one example of the many attractions available in county. Whether you live in the area, or are just visiting, there are things to do and see that will help make your stay in county more enjoyable, and get you outside to enjoy some fresh air.
